NCYP Wembrook Dojo
I joined the GAO-SHAN-PAI-WU-SHU in 1980, 30 years ago, under the watchful eye of Sensei Keith Wilson. His dojo was in the back room of the Chase pub in chapel end, Nuneaton and the class cost just 50p a lesson. The Gao Shan is a hard style but is straight forward and designed specifically for the street. I achieved my black belt 1st Dan in 1989 after my third attempt (third time lucky.) And now have gained the grade of Shihan 6th Dan.
Along the way, I have trained in Judo under Sensei George Mumford and Sensei Mick Green. This was at the Jubilee Sports centre in Nuneaton in 1989 rising to my orange belt and taking gold in the men’s open competition. Then in 1999 I joined the Akai Hino Kai Jujutsu School under sensei Ian Stockwell. In 2004 I gained my Nidan (1st Dan) at the tender age of 47 and then my Shodan (2nd Dan) in 2006. Also in 2004 I attained my 5th Dan in Gao Shan which came along side my grade in Jujutsu.
In 1998 I opened my own class up at the Nuneaton Club for Young People, (the Boys Club for those who remember it as that.) Up until this point I was teaching up at the Hartshill high school with Sensei Steve Hyde. In the past 12 years of my clubs life I have trained 2 senior Black belts Sensei Paul Hayes and Sempi Matt Craddock.

The Club
At the club we always have the Matts out each week so we can teach Ground work and throws as well as stand up techniques. We incorporate both stand up, throws, locks and take down techniques with standard Gao Shan system. We also teach the kung fu side to our system not just the Karate. We regularly attend Martial Arts seminar weekends all over the country. This helps to broaden our knowledge and strengthens the system.
